Prism Systems' Marine Products Division provides shipboard
control solutions and propulsion management systems for the international
commercial marine industry. Combined with our extensive engineering experience
in drives & controls, our Vessel Management System (VMS) provides an
integrated, cost-effective shipboard management product that dramatically
reduces development costs and can provide considerable savings in installation
and sea-trial time.
Prism Systems Vessel Management System (VMS)
provides a extensive functionality spanning many areas of the ship

The VMS's distributed I/O architecture offers many advantages
over other approaches. For one, it reduces the amount of cabling that must be
pulled back to a central location. Only communications cable must be pulled
between the PLC cabinet and each I/O enclosure. This distributed I/O
architecture also allows the system to be easily expanded for use on larger
vessels or to accommodate additional functionality in an existing installation.
The I/O data is collected and controlled over a redundant, industry-standard
control network (such as Profibus, DeviceNet, Modbus,
etc.). An Ethernet network also provides communications between the
operator interfaces and the PLC equipment. Ethernet communications between the
PLC's and between the PLC's and the server are redundant to ensure that an
exchange of critical information occurs in a timely fashion. Additionally, all
PLC and operator interface hardware are powered by uninterruptible power
supplies (UPS) adding an additional level of redundancy and
fault-tolerance. |

| The VMS system also supports a variety of additional communications
methodologies (such as RS232, RS485, etc.) to provide seamless
communication to manufacturer-supplied monitoring equipment (e.g., generator
manufacturers, fire suppression systems, navigation equipment) to collect
additional operating parameters and alarming information.
The VMS systems comes standard with support for most common control-network technologies. In addition, Prism Systems' experienced software development team can provide support for almost any type of serial and/or network-based device. This allows the customer to continue to use legacy devices/technology while still integrating these systems into the modern VMS architecture. |

| The VMS operator interface systems located in the pilothouse,
engine room, Captain's and Engineer's staterooms and other locations supply the
user with information on the current status of vessel equipment and allow the
user to control a variety of equipment throughout the ship. The VMS system is a multi-lingual
design that currently supports English, Spanish and Portuguese. This innovative
system allows each operator interface to switch back-and-forth between the
available languages in real-time.
Some example operator interface screen shots are provided below to show just some of the functionality provided by the VMS system. Additionally, the open-architecture design of the software and hardware allows the system to be customized for unique customer applications. Additional operator interface screens can be readily added to incorporate additional shipboard systems and functionality. |
